Application Procedures

Please log in to the Student Information System and locate the Credit Exemption function. Search for “Everyday English” and “Workplace English”, and complete the application form.

After completing the online application, please print out the application form and submit it, along with the original and a photocopy of your English proficiency test score report, to the Language Center. Please submit your application no later than September 14.

Reminding: Students whose applications for course exemption are approved must complete other elective courses to make up the exempted credits.

Guidelines for Credit Transfer from Required General English Courses

Approved at the 1st Academic Affairs Meeting of the 1st Semester of Academic Year 2024–2025 (January 8, 2025)

Article 1
To enable undergraduate students who have passed recognized external English proficiency tests to make effective use of educational resources, enhance learning outcomes and employability, and have the opportunity to be exempted from university-required English courses, the Guidelines for Credit Transfer from Required General English Courses at Chaoyang University of Technology are established in accordance with the University’s Regulations Governing Credit Transfer and Exemption.

Article 2
Four-year undergraduate students in the Day Division or Continuing Education Division, excluding students in the Department of Applied English, may apply for exemption from required General English courses if they meet any one of the following criteria either within two years prior to the date of admission or during their period of study at the University:

1. English is the student’s native language or the official language of the student’s country.
2. The student meets any of the proficiency requirements listed in the CYUT English Proficiency Test Standards for Credit Transfer from Required English Courses.
3. The student has studied for at least two years in an English-speaking country within three years prior to the date of admission and provides relevant proof of study approved by the course-offering unit.
   • Students in the Day Division may apply for exemption from the Everyday English and Workplace English courses.
   • Students in the Continuing Education Division may apply for exemption from Basic English and Practical English.

Article 3
Students who meet any of the above requirements shall submit an application for exemption from required English courses, excluding professional foreign-language courses offered by individual departments, within the application period announced by the Language Center each semester. Relevant supporting documents, test score reports, or certificates must be submitted with the application. Late applications will not be accepted.

Article 4
Students whose applications for course exemption are approved must complete other elective courses to make up the exempted credits.

Article 5
The proficiency levels and score requirements for the various English proficiency tests listed in the CYUT English Proficiency Test Standards for Credit Transfer from Required English Courses shall be established by the Language Center in accordance with the standards prescribed by the respective testing organizations. The standards shall take effect upon approval and official announcement. The same procedure shall apply to any amendments.

Article 6
These Guidelines apply to new students enrolled in four-year undergraduate programs.

Article 7
Any matters not covered herein shall be handled in accordance with relevant University regulations.

Article 8
These Guidelines shall take effect after being approved by the Language Center Meeting, reviewed by the College Affairs Meeting of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, approved by the Academic Affairs Meeting, and authorized by the President. The same procedure shall apply to any amendments.
